La base del budismo Mahayana es la compasión que se extiende a todos los seres vivos sin excepción.

Esta compasión universal subyace a todos los métodos que nos ayudan a desarrollar plenamente el potencial de nuestra mente humana y a convertirnos en seres iluminados.

Pero la compasión y otras emociones positivas, como la bondad y la alegría comprensiva, necesitan el apoyo de una inteligencia crítica. Sin el ojo de la sabiduría que lo guíe, el corazón está ciego. Sin el razonamiento que ve cómo todos los seres son iguales en su deseo de estar libres del sufrimiento, nuestra compasión fácilmente se vuelve parcial. Por otro lado, la sabiduría sin compasión carece de la calidez necesaria para avanzar en el camino y superar los desafíos.

Por lo tanto, la sabiduría y la compasión deben guiarse mutuamente, como dos personas en un matrimonio armonioso. Esta unión de sabiduría y compasión es la verdadera práctica del Bodhisattva.

The foundation of Mahayana Buddhism is compassion that extends to every living being without exception. 

This universal compassion underlies all the methods that help us fully develop the potential of our human mind and blossom into enlightened beings. 

But compassion and our other positive emotions, such as kindness and sympathetic joy, need the support of critical intelligence. Without the wisdom eye to guide it, the heart is blind. Without the reasoning that sees how all beings are equal in their wish to be free from suffering, our compassion easily becomes partial. On the other hand, wisdom without compassion lacks the warmth necessary for us to progress along the path and overcome challenges.

 Therefore, wisdom and compassion must guide one another, like two people in a harmonious marriage. This union of wisdom and compassion is the true practice of the Bodhisattva.
